Why does Codus close or not open when I start it?
If Codus 0.2.216 or earlier closes before its window appears, or no window appears at all, the most likely cause is a Brain whose chat history has grown very large. Codus 0.2.217 fixes this: it now always opens, however large a Brain's history is. Because an install that cannot open cannot update itself, download Codus again from app.trycodus.com and install it over the top. Your projects, Brains and settings stay where they are.
This was seen on Windows. On a Mac the same history could make Codus slow to show its window rather than stop it opening.
Before you start
You need the GitHub account that holds your Codus subscription or seat, so you can download Codus again.
Steps
- Go to app.trycodus.com, sign in with GitHub and click download.
- Install it the same way as the first time. On Windows, check the installer's signature before you open it, exactly as described in How do I install codus?. On a Mac, drag codus into Applications and choose Replace when asked.
- Open Codus.
If Codus still opens but takes a long time to show its window, you can update the usual way instead: Settings → Updates, then fully quit and reopen Codus.
What changed in 0.2.217
Codus keeps a searchable copy of each Brain's conversations. It now shows its window first and brings that copy up to date in the background shortly afterwards, a little at a time, so a large history can no longer hold up or stop the start.
How do I know it worked?
Codus opens and shows its window within a few seconds. Settings → Updates shows 0.2.217 or newer. Your Brains are in the Brain drawer with their past conversations.
If Codus still does not open on 0.2.217 or newer, contact support with your operating system and what you see when you start it, for example nothing at all or a window that closes.
