What is the video tab, and how do I use it?

The video tab is a workspace in codus where you organise your video projects, record or import footage, and run a team of AI specialists that turn a raw recording into a finished, edited video. It appears in the top bar only if your team has the Video module. If you cannot see it, that is almost always why, and not a fault.

Before you start

• You need the Video module on your account. It adds the whole video area, and without it the tab does not show at all. See What are the modules, and what does each one add?.
• codus is a macOS app, so everything here happens in the desktop app, not in a web browser.
• Recording your screen or camera needs macOS permission the first time. codus walks you through it when you record.

What you see

Click video in the top bar. The screen splits into three columns.

1. Left column: your folders and projects. A searchable tree. The header reads Folders. Folders can hold other folders, and each folder holds video projects. A project is one video you are making.
2. Centre column: the workspace. When you open a project, this shows its work across seven sub-tabs: Brief, Script, Cut, Assets, Versions, Thumbnails and Files. Along the top you also get a Run team button, and a Film footage button if this Mac can record.
3. Right column: Live View and the team. The top, labelled Live View, mirrors whatever page an agent is looking at, live. Below it, under Team, is a row of the agents (the Creative Director and its specialists) and the terminal for whichever one you select.

Nothing is selected the first time you open the tab, so the centre reads No project selected with the hint "Add a folder and a video project from the tree on the left to get started." That is expected.

What each project tab is for

• Brief. The one thing you fill in yourself. It tells the team what the video is for, who it is aimed at, the style, and the length. See How do I brief the video team?.
• Script. The spoken words, if your video is a talking-head or narrated one. You can write it, ask the team to, and read it back from a teleprompter view. See How do I write or generate a script?.
• Cut. The team's read of your recording: every um, filler word, false start and retake it found, and which ranges it keeps. This one fills in on its own as the team works.
• Assets. Any clips, photos, graphics, music or sound effects the team sourced or made, each with its attribution.
• Versions. Every rendered video, newest first, each with a quality-check verdict and a button to play it or show it in Finder. This is where the finished video lands. See Where do I find the finished video?.
• Thumbnails. The cover-image concepts the team designs, if you asked for any. See How do I get video thumbnails?.
• Files. The plain folder of everything: your source footage and every render. Open it in Finder from here.

The shortest path to a finished video

1. Add a folder and a project. See How do I create a video folder and project?.
2. Get your footage into the project, either by recording it or importing a clip. See How do I record footage for a video?.
3. Fill in the Brief so the team knows what you want.
4. Click Run team. The Creative Director and its specialists get to work. See How do I run the video team?.
5. Collect the finished cut from the Versions tab.

If you record with Edit automatically switched on, step 4 is done for you: stopping the recording hands it straight to the team.

How do I know it worked?

If you can see a tab labelled video in the top bar of codus, you have the module and you are in the right place. Opening it should show the three columns described above.

Common problems

"There is no video tab." Your account does not have the Video module. That is the single most common reason. See Why can't I see the video tab?.

"I saw every tab on someone else's codus and mine has fewer." A development or demo build shows all the areas regardless of what is paid for. A normal account only shows the modules it holds, so fewer tabs is expected, not broken.
