How do I set up the agent browser?

Open Settings → Agent browser, choose where Chrome should open, then click Open Chrome to set up. Load the extension from the folder Codus shows you into that Chrome profile. Setup is complete when Codus reports the selected browser is connected.

This is optional. codus already has a browser built in and it needs no setup. The agent browser exists only for sites that refuse the built-in one, which is mostly sites with a "prove you are human" check.

Before you start

You need Google Chrome installed. The mode choices and button names below apply to Codus 0.2.183 or later. Older versions use a separate Chrome profile and may label the buttons Set up agent browser, Copy path and Reopen agent browser.

Separate browser keeps its own logins and cookies. Window in your Chrome shares your chosen normal Chrome profile's logins and cookies. Compare the modes before choosing. If Chrome asks you to select a profile, choose the one intended for that mode.

Codus 0.2.184 or later also offers Automatic: separate first, which starts separately and permits fallback to your normal Chrome. It needs both profile extensions connected. Choosing it permits those switches without asking each time; your normal profile shares its logins when used.

Steps

1. Click the ⚙ icon in Codus, then See all settings →.
2. Select Agent browser and choose Separate browser, Window in your Chrome, or Automatic: separate first (0.2.184 or later).
3. Click Open Chrome to set up. Chrome opens and Codus shows the setup steps for that mode.
4. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode at the top right.
5. Click Load unpacked. If the Codus extension is already installed from the folder shown in Settings, use its Reload button instead. Finish active browser work before reloading it.
6. In Codus, click Copy folder path. Each mode has a different folder; use the one displayed for your selected mode.
7. In Chrome's folder picker, select that folder. On macOS, press Command-Shift-G, paste the copied path, press Return, then confirm the folder.
8. Return to Codus and look for the connected status. Setup checks automatically while these instructions are open; Recheck also refreshes the status.
9. For Automatic: separate first, repeat steps 3 to 8 under the other browser heading. Use each section's own folder in its intended Chrome profile.

How do I know it worked?

Codus reports Your Chrome connected or Separate browser connected, the setup instructions disappear, and the button becomes Open agent window. Click it to bring the agent window forward. The extension being visible in Chrome alone does not prove it connected to Codus.

Automatic shows Separate browser connected and Your Chrome connected independently. One connected browser does not prove the other is ready. If normal Chrome is unavailable during a fallback, the original tab stays open; reopen the profile containing its extension and click Recheck.

Do I have to do this again?

Install once per mode and profile. If you use both modes, install each mode's extension in its intended profile. Switching modes later does not require another installation.

After an extension update, Codus may ask you to Reload the extension at chrome://extensions. Reloading keeps existing tabs open but releases them from agent control, so later browser work starts in new agent tabs. Finish active browser work first.

What it is for

Some websites refuse the built-in browser. Your agent can try real Chrome for those sites. A site may still require sign-in or human verification. The browser built into Codus continues to work without this setup.

If you never work with sites like that, you can skip this page entirely.

Common problems

Codus says Google Chrome was not found. Install Chrome, then click Recheck. A different browser based on Chrome does not satisfy this setup.

Codus still shows setup instructions. Check that the extension is enabled in the intended Chrome profile and came from the folder shown for this mode. Click Recheck and read any error. If Codus requests an extension update, click Reload on its Chrome extension card after finishing browser work.

The Chrome window did not open. Check the error below the controls. Click Open Chrome to set up again after resolving it. A Chrome profile chooser can appear before the window opens.

I cannot find the path to paste. Click Open Chrome to set up to reveal the instructions. Copy folder path sits below the folder path and changes to Path copied after copying it. If copying fails, select and copy the displayed path yourself.
