Why did I dictate but get no text in Codus?

First identify whether you are using Codus Whisper or another dictation app. Then check whether recording started, whether text was recognised and whether the intended field had focus. These are different failures.

Before you start

Do not retry with a sensitive message. Use a short test sentence and normal stop, not Stop and send.

Check the failure point

  1. If recording never starts, open Settings → Codus Whisper. Check Dictation → On, a downloaded selected model and the hotkey. Try it is unavailable until the engine is ready.
  2. If recording starts but does not hear you, check microphone access in Mac System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
  3. If words are recognised but land elsewhere, click the intended field before starting. Check dictation history for recoverable text.
  4. If insertion fails, review accessibility permission for the dictation app in use. Codus Whisper needs Codus permissions; SuperWhisper needs its own.
  5. If text appears highlighted, that can be normal with Insert style → Paste. Check the text before changing the setting to Type.
  6. If two dictation apps respond together, give them different hotkeys or turn one off.

Follow a displayed Restart needed instruction after changing a permission, once active work is safe to stop. Do not assume all dictation failures mean permission was denied.

How do I know it worked?

A short test appears in the target field. If it still fails, contact support with the operating system, dictation app, exact error and which step failed. Do not send private recordings or account tokens.
