What is the £1 Windows founder reservation, and why can't I download codus?

The £1 is a Windows early-access reservation, not a codus plan. It holds your place, and your price, for when the Windows version of codus ships, and it bills at £1 per month until then. It does not unlock codus, and it does not let you download the Mac app, because codus today is Mac-only and the £1 reservation is designed to give no product access at all. When you first open codus on Windows, your reservation rolls over on its own to the full Solo plan at £99 per month, dated from that day. Until then, you are paying £1 to reserve your spot, and nothing more.

What the £1 gets you

  • A reserved place for the Windows build, and the founder price locked in.
  • A £1 per month charge while you wait, on the card you paid with.
  • That card saved, so the later rollover to the full plan can run without you doing anything.

That is the whole of it. The £1 is a deposit on a future product, not a way to use codus now.

Why you cannot download codus

Two reasons, and both are on purpose:

  • codus is Mac-only right now. There is no Windows app to download yet. The reservation is for when there is one.
  • A £1 reservation never unlocks the product. Even the Mac download stays locked, because a founder reservation grants no access by design. If it did, £1 would buy the whole product.

If you have a Mac and want to use codus today, you need a normal seat, not the reservation. See How much does codus cost?.

What happens when Windows ships

The first time you open codus on a Windows machine, your reservation automatically becomes the full Solo plan at £99 per month. The billing date resets to your activation day, so you are not charged the £99 until you actually start using it. Everything is on the card already on file.

How to stop the reservation

It is a normal subscription, so you cancel it in the billing portal like any other. It stays at £1 per month until it rolls over, so cancelling before you activate on Windows stops it there. See Where do I find my invoices and update my card?.

Common problems

I paid £1 and the Mac download is still locked. That is expected. The £1 is a Windows reservation and gives no download. For a Mac today, buy a seat on the billing page.

When will I be charged £99? Only when you first activate codus on Windows. The rollover moves your billing date to that day, so there is no £99 charge before then.

I signed in with a different GitHub account than I reserved with. Sign in with the same one. The reservation, and the full plan it later becomes, are tied to the exact GitHub account you reserved with, which is also the account you will sign into the desktop app with.
