How does codus update itself, and can I stop it?
codus updates itself automatically. It checks for a new version a few seconds after launch and again every 30 minutes, downloads any update quietly in the background, and installs it the next time you quit. When an update has finished downloading, an Update ready pill appears in the titlebar so you can install it right away instead of waiting. There is no setting to turn auto-update off.
When an update is ready
Watch the titlebar, near the top of the window:
- While an update is downloading, a small pill shows ↓ with a percentage.
- Once it is downloaded, the pill becomes a button reading Update ready · v
(its tooltip says "A new version is downloaded and ready to install").
Click that pill and a What's new panel opens. It shows the new version and the release notes, with the line "You're on v
- Later closes the panel and keeps you on your current version for now.
- Restart and install restarts codus into the new version.
Even if you click Later and never restart, codus installs the update the next time you quit the app.
Checking and installing from settings
You can also manage updates from the settings page:
- Open the gear (⚙) and click See all settings →.
- Click Updates in the left list.
This panel shows:
- Current version, the version you are running.
- A small status badge (for example "up to date", "v
ready", or "checking…"). - When it last checked (for example "Last checked 4 min ago").
- If an update is ready, "What's new in v
" with the release notes and a Restart and install button. - A Check for updates now button so you do not have to wait for the automatic check.
Can I turn auto-update off?
No. There is no switch to disable it. codus keeps itself current so every user has the same fixes. The only choice you have is when to restart, using Later or Restart and install.
How do I know it worked?
After Restart and install, codus reopens on the new version. Check Settings → Updates; the Current version should now read the new number and the badge should say it is up to date.
Common problems
- The Updates panel says "dev mode". Auto-update only runs on the installed app. The panel reads "Auto-update only runs on packaged builds." on a development session. On a normal install you will not see this.
- I want to see what changed in the version I already have. Open the ⚙ dropdown and click What's new in codus →. That shows the release notes for your current version, separate from the update panel.
- I clicked Later and forgot. codus installs the pending update automatically the next time you quit, so you will be up to date on your next launch.
