# How do I create a video folder and project?

In the **video** tab, make a **folder** first (with the plus button at the top of the left column), then make a **project** inside it from the folder's menu. A folder is a group, like a client or a series, and a project is one video you are making. Everything you do to a video happens inside its project.

## Before you start

- Open the **video** tab. If it is not there, you do not have the Video module yet. See [Why can't I see the video tab?](why-cant-i-see-the-video-tab.md).
- You do not need footage yet. You can create the project first and add the recording afterwards.

## Step 1: Add a folder

1. In the left column, find the **Folders** header. Click the **plus (+)** button on the right of that header. Its tooltip reads "New folder".
2. In the dialog titled **New folder**, type a name in **Folder name**, for example "Product demos" or a client's name.
3. Click **Create**. The folder appears in the tree.

If the tree is completely empty, you will instead see "No folders yet." with an **Add your first folder** button that does the same thing.

## Step 2: Add a project inside the folder

1. Hover the folder row and click its **⋯** (more) button to open its menu.
2. Choose **New project**.
3. In the dialog titled **New video project**, type a name in **Project name** that says what the video is, for example "How our returns work" or "Founder intro".
4. Click **Create**. The project appears under the folder and opens straight away, ready for you to brief and run.

You can create as many projects under a folder as you like, one per video.

## Optional: nest folders and tidy up

Everything is reachable from the **⋯** menu on a row.

- **Subfolders.** A folder's menu has **New subfolder**, so you can nest a series inside a client, and so on.
- **Move.** Use **Move to folder** on a folder or a project to file it somewhere else.
- **Rename.** **Rename** on either a folder or a project.
- **Brand.** A folder's menu has **Brand...**, where you set the look the team should follow for videos in that folder (colours, fonts and so on).
- **Archive** and **Delete.** **Archive** hides something without removing it. **Delete** is permanent, and deleting a folder also deletes its subfolders and all their projects, so codus asks you to confirm first.

To find something quickly, type in the **Search folders and projects** box at the top of the column. It matches both folder and project names.

## How do I know it worked?

- The folder shows in the left column, with a small count of what is inside it.
- The project shows indented under the folder, and clicking it opens the workspace with the **Brief**, **Script**, **Cut**, **Assets**, **Versions**, **Thumbnails** and **Files** sub-tabs.

## Common problems

**"There is no plus button."** You are looking at the wrong column. The plus is on the right of the **Folders** header, at the very top of the left column.

**"I made a project but nothing is happening."** Creating a project does not start any work. Add footage and a brief, then click **Run team**. See [How do I run the video team?](how-do-i-run-the-video-team.md).

**"A recording made its own project called Recording (a date)."** That is normal. When you record without choosing a destination, codus makes a fresh project named after the date. You can rename it from its **⋯** menu, and the team usually renames it to match the video's content once it knows what the video is.
