# Who can enable a module, and why can't I turn one on for myself?

Only an owner or admin of your team can turn a module on, and only by buying it. You cannot enable one for yourself, even your own, because turning a module on is a purchase, and purchases are made by whoever manages the team. If you want a module, ask an owner or admin to add it.

## Who can do it

- **Owners and admins** can turn modules on and off for anyone on the team, from the team page. Turning one on charges the team's card.
- **Members** cannot. If you are a member, the team page will not let you, and there is no way to enable a module for yourself.

This is deliberate. A module costs money every month, so the decision sits with the people who look after the team and its billing, not with each individual.

## What about free access?

Some accounts have a module switched on without paying, for example during testing or for a specific arrangement. That kind of free access can only be set up by codus itself, not by you or your admin, and not by any button in the product. If you believe you should have free access to something and do not, that is a conversation to have with us, not something to look for a setting for.

## So how do I get a module?

Ask an owner or admin of your team to turn it on for you. Point them at [How do I turn a module on for someone?](how-do-i-turn-on-a-module.md) if they have not done it before. Once they do, your new area appears in codus within about a minute.

## How do I know who my admins are?

If you can see the **team** button at the top of [app.trycodus.com](https://app.trycodus.com) and open the team page without being turned away, you are an owner or admin. If you cannot, you are a member, and you will need to ask one.
